SUMMARY:ACTRIS Week
DESCRIPTION:ACTRIS is excited to announce that ACTRIS Week 2025 will take place from October 21–23\, 2025\, in Évora\, Portugal. \nThe aim of ACTRIS Week 2025 is to bring the ACTRIS Community together\, to update the community about the most recent and ongoing ACTRIS progress and challenges\, and to provide a platform for various ACTRIS and ACTRIS-adjacent groups and communities to get together. \nAs ACTRIS continues to grow\, ACTRIS Week remains a key opportunity for networking\, knowledge exchange\, and shaping the future of our community. The event will feature plenary sessions\, interactive discussions\, and updates on ACTRIS services\, operations\, and scientific advancements. \nPreliminary agenda here \nTuesday October 21st – general ACTRIS session and CARGO-ACT community session (start at 13:30) \nWednesday October 22nd – Central Facility and other workshops. The following workshops are to take place: \n\nASCC (atmospheric simulation chamber committee) workshop\nCAIS-ECAC (aerosol in situ) workshop\nCIS (cloud in situ) workshop\nCCRES (cloud remote sensing) workshop\nCiGas (trace gases in situ) workshop\nCARS-ARES (aerosol remote sensing) workshop\n\nThursday October 23rd – National Facility Technical & Scientific Forum \n\n\n\n\nSocial Activities\nA guided city tour of Évora will take place on Tuesday October 21st after the main programe. The cost of the tour is graciously covered by the University of Évora. \nConference dinner will take place on Wednesday October 22nd at 19:30 at the Hotel M’Ar de Ar Muralhas (Tv. da Palmeira 4). The restaurant is a 15-min walk from the University of Évora premises.\n\n\nTransport\nÉvora is located in the region of Alentejo\, in the south of Portugal\, about 140km east of Lisbon. \nLisbon-Portela Airport (LIS) is the nearest airport and the largest in the country with direct flights to all parts of Europe and beyond. FlixBus provides a direct connection from Lisbon Airport to Evora a couple of times a day. Alternativey\, Lisbon Oriente train station has multiple daily train and bus departures to Evora. Lisbon Oriente train station can be easily accessed from the airport by metro.

SUMMARY:Forest - Climate Nexus - Lectures
DESCRIPTION:MEETING Forest – Climate Nexus between \nCREATE\, School of Science and Technology\, University of Évora and\nFaculty of Forestry\, Technical University in Zvolen\, Slovak \n_______________________________________________\n\n22nd October 2025\, 9:30 h\nRoom 242 – Colégio do Espirito Santo \nPROGRAM \nLectures \nStarting point\, concept\, structure and algorithms of SIBYLA Lex Eterna process-based model for forestry gamification\nFabrika Marek\, Faculty of Forestry\, Technical University in Zvolen\, Slovakia \nThe lecture deals with digital twins\, growth simulators\, and virtual reality in forestry gamification\, education\, and research. It describes the current state of the art in the form of a) the semi-empirical SIBYLA Triquetra model\, b) a virtual forest in the Unity 3D Game Engine environment. It describes data sources for identical and non-identical digital forest twins. The main part of the lecture is devoted to the SIBYLA Lex Eterna process-based model\, which is being developed as a new generation of tool and software. The lecture is supplemented with practical demonstrations of the tools. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nNew teaching and research platform – web application with unique on-line transfer of meteorological data as a source of data to climate process-based model of SIBYLA\nKatarína Střelcová\, Faculty of Forestry\, Technical University in Zvolen\, Slovakia \nMeteorological and climatological data are key inputs for forest growth models. Climate change\, accompanied by extreme weather events\, has considerably changed the climate conditions and optimal ecological (particularly climatic) ranges for species. As a consequence\, forest ecosystems are increasingly threatened by climate-change-fuelled cycles of drought and/or heat\, frost hits\, fires\, or floods\, leading to the attenuation of growth processes\, disruption of phenological cycles\, decreasing resistance\, natural disturbances\, or dieback. Climate warming is reducing forest productivity in drought-prone areas because rising temperatures and longer periods of water shortage lead to negative tree growth trends and predispose some species to dieback. Water stress is the most frequent and threatening ecological limit to tree growth. Decreasing water availability during heat and drought periods\, which might damage the trees and weaken trees physiologically and reduce forest productivity. Aim of the lecture is to present our research and teaching platform www.forestweather.sk as a source of data to growth models in forestry and forest management planning \n\n\n\n\nThink tank \n\n\n\n\nThe importance of biotic and abiotic risks assessment and modelling in the development of frameworks for forest growth models in Portugal\nNuno de Almeida Ribeiro \nModelling the effect of water and nutrients on cork oak radial growth\nConstança Camilo Alves: \nPermanent plots and cork from Quercus suber – a cellular approach\nAna Poeiras: \nStudy of carbon sequestration dynamics in Quercus sampling plots with different biophysical features\nMariana Rodrigues: \n3D Aerial imaging\nJoão Ribeiro:
