O seu uso é vantajoso em etapas prévias a escavações ou extração de materiais para atingir o conhecimento sobre o conteúdo da superfície e subsuperfície. \nExiste uma grande variedade de métodos disponíveis\, dos quais se destacam a gravimetria\, sísmica\, elétrica\, magnética e eletromagnética. SUMMARY:Study of aerosol variability in the Indian Ocean during the biomass burning season in southern Africa
DESCRIPTION:Seminário CREATE e Programa Doutoral em Ciências da Terra e do Espaço\nMarion Ranaivombola\n(New CREATE and EUBURN-RISK researcher)Study of aerosol variability in the Indian Ocean during the biomass burning season in southern AfricaQuarta-feira\, 29 de outubro às 15H\, sala 138 do CLAV\nSummary \nThis work focuses on the evolution and transport of pollutants from biomass burning in the region of Southern Africa and the South-West of Indian Ocean using ground-based and satellite observations and numericals tools. To address this\, the BiBAC (Biomass Burning Aerosol Campaign) campaign was implemented as part of the IRP-ARSAIO (International Research Project – Atmospheric Research in Southern Africa and Indian Ocean) project\, which conducted an intensive observation phase between August and October 2022. During the IOP\, two transport mechanisms were identified: a case of river of smoke during event 1 and air mass recirculation with the formation of col points during event 2. These transport patterns had already been observed during the SAFARI-2000 campaign. However\, the smoke river observed differs from previous cases due to specific synoptic conditions and the absence of a “cut-off low”. This work is the first study to document the transport mechanisms of aerosols and CO to the southwestern Indian Ocean basin. FLEXPART\, coupled with fire and anthropogenic emission inventories\, was used to identify the origin of air masses during the IOP and to quantify the contribution of African and South American sources to the CO balance. The results confirmed the regional and intercontinental transport of air masses and highlighted the predominance of African sources\, while the contributions of South American fires were more variable and could be greater than or equal to those from southern Africa.

It describes the current state of the art in the form of a) the semi-empirical SIBYLA Triquetra model\, b) a virtual forest in the Unity 3D Game Engine environment. It describes data sources for identical and non-identical digital forest twins. The main part of the lecture is devoted to the SIBYLA Lex Eterna process-based model\, which is being developed as a new generation of tool and software. The lecture is supplemented with practical demonstrations of the tools. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nNew teaching and research platform – web application with unique on-line transfer of meteorological data as a source of data to climate process-based model of SIBYLA\nKatarína Střelcová\, Faculty of Forestry\, Technical University in Zvolen\, Slovakia \nMeteorological and climatological data are key inputs for forest growth models. Climate change\, accompanied by extreme weather events\, has considerably changed the climate conditions and optimal ecological (particularly climatic) ranges for species. As a consequence\, forest ecosystems are increasingly threatened by climate-change-fuelled cycles of drought and/or heat\, frost hits\, fires\, or floods\, leading to the attenuation of growth processes\, disruption of phenological cycles\, decreasing resistance\, natural disturbances\, or dieback. Climate warming is reducing forest productivity in drought-prone areas because rising temperatures and longer periods of water shortage lead to negative tree growth trends and predispose some species to dieback. Water stress is the most frequent and threatening ecological limit to tree growth. Decreasing water availability during heat and drought periods\, which might damage the trees and weaken trees physiologically and reduce forest productivity. SUMMARY:Exposição fotográfica "Microplásticos: O Inimigo Oculto"
DESCRIPTION:Os microplásticos (MP) são partículas de plástico com dimensões entre 0\,001 e 5 milímetros\, e constituem um problema ambiental generalizado que se tem vindo a agravar nas últimas décadas. As fotografias expostas foram captadas no âmbito do trabalho de monitorização da unidade curricular de Monitorização do Ambiente\, da licenciatura em Ecologia e Ambiente. A presença de microplásticos no ambiente foi detetada\, contribuindo para uma compreensão aprofundada do desafio ambiental que representa. Esta exposição de fotografias chama a atenção para este problema ambiental\, sem descurar a sua beleza\, mas também com uma vertente pedagógica. \nA exposição de fotografias será inagurada no dia 2 de abril de 2025\, 4ª feira\, pelas 16h na Biblioteca do Colégio Luís António Verney e ficará exposto previsivelmente até 30 de maio de 2025\, 6ª feira\, durante o seguinte horário: 2ª feira-6ª feira: 9h-20h; Sábado: 9h30-12h30. \n
