Mission & Vision

The Center for sci-tech Research in EArth sysTem and Energy – CREATE, is a pioneering R&D unit dedicated to addressing critical Earth System and Energy challenges through collaborative, interdisciplinary research and technological innovation. Located in Alentejo, a region facing significant environmental and socio-economic challenges, CREATE seeks to advance scientific knowledge, promote sustainable development, and contribute to regional and global growth. By uniting researchers from the University of Évora, the Polytechnic Institute of Beja, and two start-ups (PARTICLE Summary and UniversaPulsar), CREATE fosters collaboration between academic subsystems and industry to drive impactful research and innovation. The unit is committed to nurturing the next generation of researchers, facilitating knowledge transfer, and tackling pressing societal and environmental issues, including climate change, resource management, energy transition, and natural hazards, while supporting public policies, economic and societal development.

CREATE aspires to be a leading force in Earth System and Energy research, delivering impactful contributions to environmental sustainability, health, and risk management. By advancing scientific knowledge, fostering innovation, and promoting interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral collaboration, CREATE aims to address urgent global challenges, particularly in the areas of climate science, renewable energy, water safety, and ecosystem balance. Through international partnerships, knowledge dissemination, and the development of young researchers, CREATE envisions a future where its research drives sustainable solutions that benefit society and industry, aligning with the European Green Deal, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

CREATE’s strategy is founded on the following core pillars:

  • Integrated and interdisciplinary research, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the European Green Deal.
  • Scientific Excellence and Internationalization.
  • Cross-sector Collaboration and Regional Development.
  • Knowledge Transfer and Societal Impact.
  • Talent Development and Capacity Building.
  • Inclusivity and Open Science.
